Provisional placements aren’t bad
Everybody seeks
a permanent job and an interim placement is viewed with skepticism.
Unattractive and disliked, provisional placements are regarded as mind-numbing.
The belief that
temporary jobs are detrimental to career interests is not correct because they
do offer remuneration and are jumping boards for a permanent job. If you can
understand this aspect, you can use them to your advantage. How?
·
You heighten
your curriculum vitae
Resume rot is a
malady that afflicts the unemployed. If you happen to be jobless and unwaged
for long, you focus your endeavours exclusively on job hunts. Little do you
realize that you could utilize the time for beefing up your resume.
Provisional
placements are a source of income and present a chance to gain work experience
that can be of immense utility subsequently. You will be able to grasp the
fundamentals of any business or organization; and when you land up in a
permanent job later, your knowledge and familiarity will count. In addition,
you stand to acquire new proficiencies and improve your existing expertise. The
very mention of these aspects in your resume is by itself a positive factor.
Even part-time jobs make good fillers. After all, your resume is an
advertisement to your skills, experience and knowledge.
·
You make
your presence felt
Contrary to general belief, no temporary job
is without accountability, though in some organizations, it could well be
rather stress-free. You need to appreciate that it could show the way to a better
job.
It is not that a temporary employee is not
assessed. Your efficiency and understanding of work together with your
displayed traits and general outlook will invariably be under scrutiny. So, you
need to utilize the opportunity because you never know that your appointment
can be confirmed and you are absorbed as a permanent employee. After all, luck
is always a matter of preparation meeting opportunity. Temporary placements
offer you practical acquaintance with people; the confidence level that you build
with them will stand you in good stead, should any of them be assigned a role
to hire new people.
·
You gain
experience
You will always feel the impermanency
attached to your provisional placement, come what may. It is essential that you
do so because then you will not be rigid and unyielding in your approach. Even
if the job requirements are severely demanding, you will always have this gut
reaction that you are not there to stay forever.
The significant
point is that more often than not, ab initio, men and women are unaware of what
they want to do and attain in life. A provisional placement is a good method to
experience and understand different job conditions. The only
source of knowledge is experience and whatever knowledge you gain at a temporary
job will help you in its application later in life. Experience is a lucky grindstone; you ought
to be brightened by it and not ground.
·
You enjoy
pecuniary benefits
There is no denying the fact that money makes
the mare go. Though this should not be the singularly important factor, but it
is a significant one; and hence you should have no reservations in accepting a
temporary placement to get the money that you need.
Like money, good jobs do not come easily and
without effort. If feasible and workable options do not come your way, getting
into a provisional placement is an excellent method to make some money. If you
are still at college, you can take on an evening job; alternatively, you can
also work during day and attend evening classes.
The final word
You may not be
very pleased about a temporary placement, but you need to view it as an opening
to get into motion to achieve your long-term objectives in life. And if you are facing in the right direction,
all you need to do is keep on walking.

Which career should I choose?
The market is galore with job opportunities. If you are not sure of what you want to do, every step that you take will be a tricky one. But remember that maturity of mind is the capacity to endure uncertainty. Analyzing what you have not got as well as what you have is a necessary ingredient of a career.
You should choose a job you
love because in doing so, you will never have to slog in your life. Here is what you ought to be doing if you are not
still sure of what you should do in life:
· Self-evaluation: Your principles, inclinations, expertise and persona will render some career options particularly apt for you and some explicitly inapt. Therefore, you need to be aware about yourself before exercising any option so that a list of professions that match your personality can be drawn. Self-evaluation will help direct you to prepare your next performance from the past and today's experiences.
·
Know more: You should ponder over various careers that you have
identified for yourself. Thereafter, preliminary research should be done on
each to discern their pluses and minuses. The ones that do not appeal to you
should be discarded so that you have a narrowed down list of six to seven choices.
·
Practical acquaintance: Querying
and spending some time with a person engaged in a specific pursuit will help
you remove the haziness that you may have on a particular career option. You
should go well prepared to meet him so that you can ask relevant questions. You
will thus have a detailed insight about the career option and be able to figure
out how to go about getting an employment, should you decide to take it up.
·
Pruning of options:
With your research practically
over, you now need to prune your list further. You would have realized which
career is your cup of tea and which is not. You will now have in front of you
one or two choices that are realistically attainable. Remember that you cannot
do everything, but you can definitely do something. You must not fail to do the
something that you can do. You have to now decide
which career option you ought to select.
·
Identifying objectives: Now that you know what you should be doing, it is high
time that you formulate a scheme of action to land up in a job that suits you.
But prior to that, you need to set objectives, both short and long term for
yourself. They should be plausible, attainable, credible, describable and
modifiable.
·
Developing an action plan: You
now need to put together a plan that timetables your journey from selecting a
particular field of pursuit to getting a job in that field and eventually
achieving your long-term objectives. You will face many hurdles in this
journey and you ought to identify and categorize them in advance..
·
Preparatory
training: Acquisition of new qualifications,
undergoing basic on-the-job sessions or attending programmes to acquire new
proficiencies will help train you for your new calling. The world of today is
saturated with contests and you have to brace up for it; remember that when the
going gets tough, the tough get going.
There is no
denying the fact that destiny is not a matter of chance but a matter of choice.
You cannot possibly do everything, but can definitely do something. Have the
will to do that and not limit yourself in any way. You should never be
intimidated into quiet. You should never permit your discrimination. You should
not agree to anybody’s characterization of your life. On the contrary, you need
to describe and lead it yourself.
Remember that pleasure in your job will put perfection in your work. Don't
aim for success if you want it; just do what you love and believe in, and it
will come naturally!

From college to …. finding a job
There are
various standards that employers are on the lookout for amongst fresh
graduates. These are generally related to leadership qualities and camaraderie;
crisis management and resoluteness; and general smartness and communication
skills. And the best place where you can imbibe these qualities is your college.
What you learn
at college helps you in your voyage ahead. If you can understand the
significance of the following, you will render yourself striking in the eyes of
interviewers and potential employers:
·
Talkers
have always ruled: Amongst
extra-curricular activities regularly organized in colleges, debates and
seminars are quite common. Participation in them, besides boosting your
confidence to face an audience, also improves your speaking skills. You should
remember that any person who wants to
convince and persuade others should put his trust not in the right argument,
but in the right word. The power of speech has always been greater than the
power of sense.
· Writing makes an exact man: You should not grumble against having to
do written assignments. Since the advantages of possessing good writing skills,
which also include editing and refining last a lifetime, your efforts will
stand in you in good stead in your later years. You write not because you want
to say something, but because you have something to say. After all, the skill
of writing is to create a context in which other people can think.
· Sticks in a bundle are unbreakable:
Fitting well in a team is one issue; leading it is another. Leading a
group puts you into limelight and the college has several platforms where you
can do that. Since organizations always seek team players and if you are one, your
chances to get hired increase manifold. You should never forget that in any
organization, coming together is a beginning, staying together is
progress, and working together is success.
· You delay, time will not: If you can fit in several tasks in your
schedule and complete them within stipulated timeframes, you will emerge a
winner. It is important that while at college you learn to manage your time
well. Time management implies prioritizing matters and splitting large ones into small,
workable portions.
· Do
something before doing something: You also need to monitor all your assignments
so that there are no delays in completing them. Whether you maintain a dairy or
make a things-to-do list, you have to make certain that you conform to
deadlines. Learning to systemize things is best done at college. .
· In
analysis you expose: Employers want staff who can evaluate
conditions from various angles. You learn these skills best at college because
of the plethora of coursework that you may be required to indulge in. Your
incisive skills will gear you up well to face the challenges of a job.
·
It is my hill, I will climb it: People who are determined invariably excel. And at college, it demands working with a strict professor or
taking on assignments that no other student dares to do. If you happen to
triumph over one or two of such difficult projects, you can talk your way to
success when being considered by employers for recruitment.
·
Your values are your destiny: The college environment affords you
immense chances to nurture potent values of work like commitment and enthusiasm.
At work, your attainments and progress manifest them. Employers look for honest
and sincere staff and if you have these qualities, you sure will be hired.
They say that the direction in which education starts a man will
determine his future life. A college is like a fountain of knowledge and where
windows of opportunities exist to develop and
transform you. It is the place where you replace an empty mind with an open
mind. Clinch your fists and get set to make
the best use of your college because one thing you cannot recycle is wasted time. .
