Be happy at work



Happiness at work is a result of many factors. If the employer is a good motivator, the staff will work hard. Hard work increases productivity and in the process provides a sense of achievement. And a sense of achievement generates satisfaction and thereby happiness.

It all depends on the employee to remain happy or not; his mental disposition and attitude towards work matter a lot. So, how can you be happy at work? Here are some measures that help you in this regard:

·   Decide to be happy:  Happiness is a state of mind.  You will never have perfect working conditions or an ideal employer. So being happy or sad is a matter of preference. You need to therefore, consider your work with optimism; this can be done by giving emphasis to those facets that you like. Your preferences at work greatly characterize your familiarity and you can always decide to be happy at work.

·   Do something that makes you happy:  You may be convinced that there is nothing in your job that is worth loving.. But you can still find a positive side to your work. You should introspect – take stock of your knowledge and disposition – and discover something that you derive pleasure from daily.

·   Be in control:  You need to take control of all matters pertaining to your professional growth. After all, it is you who will benefit in the long run. However, you could occasionally seek assistance from your superiors. .

·   Keep abreast of happenings:  In most organizations, dissemination of information is restricted. People who ought to be doing it remain preoccupied. You must take initiative to find out about latest developments and planning; being inquisitive during meetings apart, you must have your own informant network for the purpose.

·   Seek opinion & advice:  If your managers do not give you any pointers, it does not mean that you are not aware of your performance. You know precisely about your output but are probably looking for recognition. If you feel that you are not performing well, you should perk yourself up and then request your boss to give an assessment. Even the feedback of your company’s clients in this regard will be valuable.

·   Don’t make tall promises:  Employees who make tall claims tend to become unhappy They are in a habit of giving alibis and constantly keep pondering about the end result rather than focusing on their work. You should devise an arrangement that would facilitate you to evaluate your capability to do a particular task. If for any reason you have a doubt, you should not volunteer to do it. 

·   Have a positive outlook:  If you decide to be happy at work, there is this inescapable requirement to shun negative discussions, including chitchats and rumour-mongering. You may resolve to remain happy, but if there happen to be negative people around, negativity will radiate on to you. Therefore, you need to remain outside the radius of their negative influence.

·   Be professionally honest:  A large majority of people do not like clashes. They regard conflict as injurious, terrifying and destructive phenomenon. The foregoing notwithstanding, conflicts impel you to excel and thus help you achieve your objectives; display of a high degree of professional honesty is a must for the purpose. Happiness is thus generated automatically. . 

·   Have friends and contacts: If you have really true friends at workplace, you generally remain happy there. That is why they say that appreciating your fellow colleagues gives rise to joyful work experiences. Therefore, you should always try to be acquainted with them so that you can get to like them and enjoy their association.

What happens if you still fail? You should then re-assess your company and job. It is no point devoting time to a work environment that is far from affable and unlikely to change. On the contrary, it will breed dissatisfaction, restlessness and unhappiness. Perhaps switching over to another job without prejudice will be a better option.
